I love it when a comic strip isn't really funny unless you've read the previous comics... but then again I'm a sucker for continuity. Even in comics that don't HAVE much storyline or continuity (like this one) it's still obvious that the funniest and best strips are the ones that have built on what has come before. They reward you for your investment in having read the comic.

That being said, however, it's important not to alienate new readers by being completely incomprehensible. If it's TOO injokey, nobody wants to start reading it.

However, I doubt FL will ever get like that. It's much more fun to just pick on things that everybody has run in to from time to time. I doubt I'll ever run short of material.
